Lecturer in Clinical Legal Education - Practice

Job Details:
Job Description

Middlesex Law School is a modern and dynamic institution based in North London (Hendon), committed to addressing local, national, and global legal challenges. We prioritise research-led legal education, where scholarly inquiry enhances our teaching and integrates with legal practice, providing students with real-world experience through clinical activities. This dynamic approach ensures students are prepared not only for legal practice but also for critical legal scholarship. Our aim is to blend academic rigor with practical application, shaping both the future of legal education and the broader legal landscape.

The Law School is part of the broader School of Law and Social Sciences (LSS) within the Faculty of Business and Law (BAL). Our Legal Advice Clinic (LAC) focuses on developing students into reflective graduates by addressing ethical dilemmas and examining the societal impacts of law alongside practical legal training. The LAC is dedicated to strengthening partnerships with law firms, NGOs, and university law clinics while expanding its clinical legal education initiatives.

The successful candidate will be a qualified barrister or solicitor (England & Wales) with at least three years of post-qualification experience (PQE) and a current practising certificate. The post holder will supervise students working on family law, housing, benefits, and employment law. Knowledge of immigration law would be advantageous.

The post holder will play a key role in the operation, delivery and development of the Middlesex Legal Advice Clinic, supervising and mentoring student advisers undertaking live client work across areas including family, housing, welfare benefits and employment law. The successful candidate will oversee casework and manage client files, ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, ethical and data protection requirements, while maintaining effective risk management and quality assurance procedures. Working closely with students, the post holder will provide professional guidance, feedback and supervision to support the development of legal knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies.

As a Lecturer in Clinical Legal Education, the role will also contribute to the teaching, assessment and ongoing development of clinical legal education and related employability initiatives, helping to integrate practice-based learning with the academic curriculum. The post holder will liaise with community and professional partners, support outreach and access-to-justice activities, and contribute to the strategic growth, innovation and enhancement of the Legal Advice Clinic and its wider educational mission.

The post requires on campus presence to supervise students in person.

This appointment is initially offered on a 0.2 basis .

Enquiries can be directed to Professor Belen Olmos Giupponi, Head of Law and Social Sciences, at B.OlmosGiupponi@mdx.ac.uk.
