Middlesex University London is recruiting for an exciting new Senior Technician position in Arts and Creative Industries at our joint education institute in partnership with Minzu University of China (MUC) on the tropical island of Hainan, China.

MUC has two long established campuses in Beijing (Haidian Campus and Fengtai Campus) and has created a beautiful new third Hainan campus in partnership with Middlesex University London to deliver joint degree programmes in Arts and Creative Industries programmes.
The Senior Technician (Fashion) will deliver technical expertise, guidance and specialised demonstrations to student and staff to enhance teaching, learning and research in our BA Fashion Design programme. The job holder will operate with a degree of autonomy within the parameters of the academic and research programmes and be accountable for core aspects of the overall running and the efficient operation of the fashion studios.
We are looking for an ambitious self-starter with advanced practical and innovative technical skills and experience of delivering technical expertise in pattern cutting and garment construction in fashion or similar academic programmes and an understanding of industrial and emerging technologies and their implications for professional practice in the fashion design industries globally.
We are looking for an ambitious self-starter with advanced practical knowledge, proven and demonstrable skills in pattern cutting, couture garment construction, men’s and women’s tailoring, and garment development. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial sewing machines and other related sewing and garment construction equipment, and possess IT skills relevant to the fashion discipline. This role is essential for providing technical expertise and guidance to support BA Fashion Design and similar programmes.
The posts will be based in Hainan campus of the joint education institute. Hainan is a beautiful tropical province, consisting of Hainan Island and various smaller islands in the South China Sea, in the southernmost province of China.
Candidates must be able to meet the Chinese visa requirements; Middlesex University will assist with obtaining a visa. Any offer of employment for this role is also conditional upon satisfactory clearance from DBS and obtaining a satisfactory basic DBS certificate. A satisfactory basic DBS certificate is required in order to obtain a visa and/or work permit to lawfully work in Hainan, China.
