Middlesex University hosts one of the UK’s longest-established criminology departments, providing high quality undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, complemented by a successful applied criminology research profile.  Applied criminological teaching includes provision of professional policing programmes, and innovations in this field have led to the need for additional academic staff capacity in a range of roles.

As lead provider in a national consortium of Higher Education Institutions we have secured the tender to provide a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA), and a Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP), for newly recruited Police Constables in Sussex Police, Hampshire Constabulary and Surrey Police. These innovative courses will be taught via e-learning with associated face-to-face masterclasses.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced practitioner and developing academic to make a major contribution to these programmes, as well as maintain and strengthen key partnerships in policing education, in particular with the College of Policing. The Lecturer will also have the opportunity to contribute to wider policing education and criminology within the Department, in particular though strengthening practice education in these programmes.

Due to the nature of the role, the post holder will have unsupervised access to police premises and Police learners’ personal data, appointment will be dependent upon successfully obtaining Non Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) Level 2.

If you have any questions about Vetting please contact Joanne Nunn on j.nunn@mdx.ac.uk

For further information about these roles please contact Professor Kevin McDonald, Head of the Criminology & Sociology Department on k.mcdonald@mdx.ac.uk
